evening shadows

I was biking past to see how the revised stucco color looked on this almost finished project and caught some nice shadows. A good side benefit of a subtle stucco color.

I stopped by my job site today to have a peek at the formwork for the curved concrete steps and landing at the back of the house. I was impressed by how quickly the pros got it done.

I noticed that they contained the fill at the center of the pour with a metal mesh box. This way they could use much less concrete than if the landing and stairs had been solid.

Here are the steps today after they pulled the forms and finished the concrete:

I learned that the concrete cost around $900, the integral color (slate green) cost $1600, and the labor to form and finish was about $2000.

These are “sketches” of a cabinet upgrade. This existing deep cabinet will get glass doors and translucent glass back so that light from the stairwell skylight behind the cabinet will light up the glassware and shine through into the dining room. I’ll post a photo when its built.

My friend Jenee just sent me this picture.  She is remodeling her 1860’s row house in Brooklyn, NY.  Some people love the construction process – bare studs, uncovering 100+ years of layers, camping out in the city, and unexpected fun like using this toilet. Some people would rather just have the job done.
