The builder (McBride Construction) is working his way through the punch list. We are both proud of how this rental cottage is turning out. Here are a couple of his snapshots:

The first one is the kitchen with built-in dish drying rack over the drainboard and apple-ply cabinets. The second is the little dining nook with storage benches and salvaged fir built-in table.

The builder sent me these first 4 snapshots…hopefully I’ll be able to photograph the finished project soon.

Zinc sheet with patina

Zinc panel installed

mahogony triangle shelves in the corner – lots of storage, clean and simple, counter still open for work

red heath tile backsplash behind the range (existing range to remain)

Another kitchen with a new very simple refrigerator side panel and high cabinet to hide the cereal boxes. The side panel is a great spot for a pot rack!

And another with a very simple under counter microwave

This recent full house remodel and additions in Berkeley turned out great. I don’t usually use so much wood, but it makes this house very cozy. More photos soon!

Here are a few before shots. The main impetus for remodel was to get the refrigerator out of the middle of the view to the back yard and to improve the strange, low-ceilinged laundry room addition at the back.

I also realized that I never shared these photos of the dining room and hallway in that same project. So many great details.

photoshopped shelving and hall

I think I was waiting because the owner plans to recover the purple couch in a deep blue to match the windows. Might never happen.

This bedroom was part of a recent full house remodel in Rockridge. I finally had a chance to publish a few photos. Due to the multicolor light, the colors are not perfect in these photos, but hopefully you can get the idea.  Photos are by Nancy Kalter-Dills.

This one shows the pair of colorful stained glass casement windows – A collaboration with Sabina Frank of Berkeley. It also shows the steel bed designed by myself to go with the windows and fabricated by Frank Trousil in Richmond.  Lights are from Metro Lighting in Berkeley and the flooring is ash.

BEDROOM WITH STAINED GLASS

The next few show the custom closet system fabricated by Martin Lee in Oakland.  My favorite part is the picture frames built into the doors. This gives the owner the opportunity to personalize the doors that they look at from the bed every day.

Hard to see in this photo, but Martin created crafty little wooden levers to hold in the picture and the glass on the inside of the door.

curving shelves

This is the unfinished kitchen of a creative scientist. I helped him with many aspects of the design, including these shelves, but he and the builder are a creative force to be reckoned with. The shelves curve in plan and get bigger as they go up. The cabinet maker will return to rebuild the center three verticals with angles like the end panels. I will post another picture. Still to come a curvy peninsula and new countertop and floor. I will also get pictures of the whole kitchen when it is finished.

I still haven’t had a chance to  photograph this whole house remodel in North Berkeley, but I do have a picture of the beautiful custom walnut media cabinet designed by Sarah Deeds and fabricated by Freedman and Chesley Custom Cabinets.
