Pick of Frick Pics

It was hot and smoky outside last week in NYC so we visited the Frick and had late lunch in the Westmorland Cafe. It is a nicely designed space with a beautiful landscape mural around the top of the wall, patinated mirror wall tiles, pretty translucent curtains, and other nice details.

All about the Southern Sunlight

This 2016 remodel recently sold. I was shocked by the selling price. The realtor was kind enough to share her photos. We remodeled the back of the house and the second floor to better connect to the yard and the south light. She also hired Shawn Lovell to build a very special staircase.

This is a photo from the upstairs bathroom and the interior window over the stairs (one shutter open.) I had thought we would put mirrors on the inside of the shutters, but owner didn’t want mirrors. This opening to the stairwell allows the bathroom to be filled with southern sunshine. Oak vanity by Aaron Larsen of Xylo Interiors. The vessel sink allows the vanity to be lower and nicer proportions.

I never managed to get any photos of this project….but it was a tiny addition and rearrangement of the south end of a house on two levels to better connect to the yard and maximize the south light. The centerpiece was a stair with botanical railing and thick wood treads. The blacksmith, Shawn Lovell recently gave me some progress photos that she took. Thanks Shawn! I’ll take a photo of the organic handrail she made for our place and post that next.
