I took this photo a while back when I installed my blue powdercoated steel Ikea cart in its spot. I was very excited because it was a perfect fit and made use of an underutilized space in my kitchen. It was also very affordable. You can also see my nifty reuse of sailboat rigging (cleat, block, and line) to make an adjustable countertop. The diamond cabinet is also from Ikea but the drawer faces were custom made by me out of fir plywood and white paint. The coordinated geometric pattern dish towel was also from Ikea, but hand dyed with tea, coffee, and beets to get rid of the bright white background. The mini wedgewood range is at least 50 years old and works great with style.

Small Addition for a Woman and her Ficus

This small addition is a spa-like bathroom designed to be more accommodating to a person growing older. My client also wanted space for plants in the room, including her large ficus plant that was outgrowing her house. They are getting close to finishing the project, but I took some photos of the almost finished interior. Most of the interior design elements were chosen by the client…but deedsdesign guided the project in subtle ways.

This old house near my office caught my eye this afternoon. I am curious how they maintain that beautiful wood. Is it original? It looks like high quality material. I bet they restain it frequently. The combination of stained wood and painted wood details is nicely done. I particularly like the gable end details.

I was biking past to see how the revised stucco color looked on this almost finished project and caught some nice shadows. A good side benefit of a subtle stucco color.

Matt has the trellis underway (on the left building.) He plans to train a rose to grow on the redwood slats. Mavis and Atticus try sitting on the covered porch in the evening light.
